NEW CLASSES STARTING IN EARLY FEBRUARY! CALL NOW FOR MORE INFORMATION OR TO REGISTER FOR EARLY BIRD SPECIALS. Mindful Eating and the Am I Hungry?® Program: What is Mindful Eating? Mindful eating is a method of eating with intention and attention. When we pay attention to the act of eating, our brains and bodies work in harmony and we intuitively know when we are hungry and when we are satisfied. This changes our relationship to food, improves our health and can ultimately transform our lives. Hunger is a physical sensation, felt in the body as emptiness, growling, or light headedness, etc. These sensations signal our brains that our bodies need the energy and nutrition derived from food. Food is essential for survival, but when more is taken in than needed, it is stored as fat. Many of us are so disconnected from our bodies that we no longer know how to interpret these signals and often mistake feelings such as boredom, anxiety or other discomfort with the need for fuel. Unable to distinguish whether we are physically hungry or satisfied, we often eat to meet these other needs. Mindful eating teaches us how to distinguish between our need for nourishment and our emotional needs, which can never be satiated with food. We can then meet our emotional needs in more effective ways and avoid eating when we are not physically hungry. What is Am I Hungry?® (AIH): Am I Hungry?® is an award-winning, non-diet approach to mindful eating that helps you end your struggle with food.
